The spirits of a deceased couple are haunted by an insufferable family who have moved into their house and hire a malevolent spirit to drive them away.. This is his favorite Michael Keaton movie.. Otho’s shoes when he spray paints the walls of the house change from goblin-looking red shoes to white shoes as he walks through the bathroom and then changes back to red goblin shoes as he enters the next room.. I lived through the Black Death and had a pretty good time during it. I’ve seen the exorcist about a hundred and sixty seven times and it gets funnier every time I see it…not to mention the fact that you’re talking to a DEAD person…NOW WHAT ARE YOU DOING THINK? The Geffen company logo is accompanied by a groovy version of the Banana Boat song (sung by the film’s composer Danny Elfman). A print of the film has surfaced with some added/alternate scenes. This version of the film is about 2 minutes shorter than the theatrical release, has some extra scenes and others missing, is in black and white, and has a timecode at the bottom. This version has 4 major differences: Alternate Scene: The scene where Adam tries to leave the house after his and his wife’s death is different. Instead of desert, he sees empty darkness filled with rolling wheels.

Additional Scenes: There is an additional scene where Lydia develops the photos she took of Adam and Barbra. Then, after her mother yells at her and blames her for cutting holes in the sheets, Lydia runs upstairs and tries to convince her father that the pictures are real. There’s more to the scene where the adults are looking for the ghosts in the attic where we see the desert monster trying to eat Adam and Barbra while they’re hanging from the attic window. Finally, there is an extra 2 minute scene at the end where we see Lydia riding her bike from school and her parents talking to Jane on the phone telling her they don’t want to sell the house. Lydia’s dance scene is shorter in this version and there is no scene with Beetlejuice in the waiting room. The film ends with a final exterior shot of the house. Attaway & Irving Burgie[incorrectly credited as written by William A. Attaway & Irving Burgie (as Lord Burgess)] Performed by Harry Belafonte, courtesy of RCA Records. It may take two or three viewings to get to “Beetlejuice.” It has a quirky, cocokey sensibility and a beat that’s by turns easy, lazy and frenetic. A charming New England couple dies and returns to their beloved home as ghosts, determined to rid the place of the horrible new tenants. Possibly Alec Baldwin’s most benign and captivating performance; Geena Davis, Winona Ryder and Sylvia Sidney are also very attractive. The new New York couple who take over the house (Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O’Hara) aren’t as well written or thought out as the other characters and some of their dry ice comic lines. Of course, there’s Michael Keaton, comically wild as Betelgeuse.
I remember hearing comments back in 1988 that Keaton wasn’t enough to make the picture worthwhile, but that’s only if you watch the movie for the quick jokes and visual gags
Keaton is really wonderful, but he’s also bombastic and I felt there was enough to satisfy him – it’s not his story anyway, it belongs to Baldwin and Davis; Betelgeuse is used as an excited, vulgar punchline. Director Tim Burton is very careful not to overload the film with sleaze; he is surprisingly thoughtful in crafting this story and works magic in a dubious scenario: a comic fantasy about dead people that ultimately celebrates life. ***1/2 of ****
