Also very worried, because it is still one of my favorite reads
I read the original novel many times when I was a teenager, decades ago. This is a great story with very effective illustrations, highly recommended, although a little dated – published in 1949, seventy-five years ago. Although I have often wondered over the years if it would ever become a film, I was not expecting this limited series adaptation, so I was very surprised when it appeared. "People come and go, but the land remains" is a quote I often use.
I finished it by saying, “Wow!
I watched the first episode with some trepidation. That was really good!” Seeing Ish staring into the smoke from Emma’s house brings the characters in the book to life. Sure, it’s modernized in many ways, but the essential plot aspects are virtually unchanged. The rattlesnake bite, finding Lucky the dog (the princess in the book), Flour and Anna.
"World Without End!"
Other changes, like limiting Ish’s travels to Las Vegas instead of Atlantic City, make sense and aren’t critical to the character interactions. Plus, the structure of the book makes the limited series a great choice for production. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of this series. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
