It is what it is. His characters are always grounded and he is extremely good at casting. But to be great, you have to write good parts for women. The writing should be as good as, if not better than, the men’s. Guys are simple.
Women are smarter, more complex
Beth on Yellowstone (great character and performance) Barrel Riders, Lone Female Herdsman (wonderful Jen Landon as Teeter) All great female characters who fit the world of the story in a natural, effortless way. They are strong and powerful. ‘Partner…’ or T & A. He stepped up his game with Faith Hill, a great character he crushed in "1883". Dame Mirren in "1923" Now we have Zoe Saldana, doing some of the best work of her career.
What a face!
I’d buy her as the head of the CIA in an open marriage (nice touch). I buy De Oliveira as a woman torn apart by a raging rage that won’t let go and thank you, thank you, thank you to the writers/Dir./Producers for not letting an extra get the best of her fellow male soldier- a hundred pounds of muscle. First and foremost authenticity! I think her character is more interesting if she’s someone who has to be caught cold or crushed to the ground before she can quit. Now shall we talk about Jill Wagner or should I say her hair?

From schmaltzy Hallmark dreck to super bad special forces? Special mention: Ms. Lanier as the evil teenage daughter. I’m looking forward to the arc that this loose canon has set up as long as they get over their teenage angst and move on. Good cast, it could be interesting…
