I thought this would be a pat, simple demonization of Trump, but to my surprise, it actually adds depth and shading to him by exploring Roy Cohn’s corrupting influence on his mind and psyche. Sebastian Stan’s deeply realized performance — which should win any award given to Rami Malek for a lesser biopic performance, in my opinion — makes the young Trump more understandable, if not always likable. Jeremy Strong is also excellent as Roy Cohn.
The whole cast is equally strong
And the nyc performance of the period was wonderful and moving. I’m honestly shocked this movie almost didn’t see the light of day. Would Trump be happy to see himself relegated to a morally ambiguous figure in the royal family’s recent “succession” tradition.
