Chronology
After the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, stages a showdown to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from a Bat-signal in the season finale, we never got to see Robert Pattinson’s cameo in The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his own version of “The Penguin’s Smoking Tobacco” in Batman (2022), but he failed.

However, in his own series, the character is depicted as an occasional tobacco user, preferring cigars. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo.

I thought Colin Farrell was a great Penguin in Batman, but I never understood how to take a skinny, good-looking actor and put a massive prosthetic and fat suit on him… especially when you consider that he looks like some other famous actors who would have been just as good. I also didn’t really understand why this spinoff even happened, and to be honest, I’m just tired of the Batman reboot.
But I didn’t expect to like it nearly as much
But after watching episode 1, I will confirm that this show is amazing (so far). I only watched it knowing that it was a must-watch bridge between the first and second movies, and to my surprise, I enjoyed Farrell’s role in the first one. The acting is amazing, the writing is great, and I was surprised by some of the quick twists.
The biggest thing I liked was that there was a lot more color in it than in Batman
I noticed this almost immediately because it was a huge complaint about the movie (it felt like I was watching it through Zack Snyder’s lens). I hope it continues to be as good as it has been since then because I really can’t wait for the next episode.
